Only Way to Get Mew
Weve seen so many fake Mew codes pop up on the web (and we get about 20 new fake Mew code submissions A DAY) that weve decided to add this following disclaimer to our codes section:
According to Nintendo, Mew cannot
be found or caught in Pokemon Yellow, Red, or Blue. Outside of a GameShark code (which may mess up your Pokedex and render the game incompatible with Pokemon Stadium), the #151st Pokemon remains a cool litte extra that is only handed out by Nintendo on special occasions, such as Mall Tours or Pokemon events
.
However, all those who want to catch a glimpse of the rare Pokemon can select Mew as a rental Pokemon in Pokemon Stadium for Nintendo 64 (but you cannot upload it to your Game Boy game). Note that Mew is just that — a bonus Pokemon (albeit a very cool one that can learn all TMs) — and not technically required to complete your Pokedex.
Cheat: Clone Pokemon
Note: This trick requires another Game Boy and Pokemon game.
Trade the Pokemon to be cloned, and have the other player get a Pokemon that he or she does not care about. Trade them, and make sure the player receiving the bad Pokemon can see the other players screen. When the Game Boy that receives the good Pokemons displays “Waiting”, get ready to shut the other Game Boy off. When the “Waiting” message disappears, turn off the Game Boy that is receiving the bad Pokemon. When the “Trade completed” message appears, turn off the remaining Game Boy. Both games will have the same good Pokemon when they are turned back on.
Note: Do not attempt this trick with any saved games you wish to keep, as it can corrupt those files if done incorrectly.
Cheat: Getting Mew Glitch
This is a glitch. Mew has not been meant to be obtained in this manner, so if you use this trick, proceed at your own risk.
Do not fight the gambler facing the house in between Lavender Town and Saffron City. Go to the door of the house and save your game. (You cannot save your game once you have started this or else it will undo the glitch that will give you Mew.) Step towards the gambler and immediatly press start. If done correctly you will bring up the start menu before the gambler sees you. Go to your flying pokemon and fly to Cerulean City. The gambler will then see you but you will fly away. (Your Start, A, and B buttons will not work during this point.) Walk up Nugget Bridge and then go to the 5th trainer after Nugget Bridge. (He will be facing up.) He is a youngster with a slowpoke. Defeat his slowpoke, and then your Start, A, and B buttons will function again. Fly back to Lavender Town and walk towards Saffron City. Your menu should pop up by itself. Hit B to exit it, and then you will enter a battle with a Mew, where you can try to capture it.
Hint: Get Surfing Pikachu
Did you ever notice the small house at the northern beach of Route 19 that wasnt in Pokémon Blue and Red? This hut is home to the infamous “Surfing Pikachu” mini-game. Heres the deal: if your Pikachu knows Surf, you can play the mini-game Pikachus Beach right here. The only problem is that Pikachu cant learn Surf… Well, at least not in Pokémon Yellow. Heres how you get Surfing Pikachu (outside of winning a Nintendo Pokemon contest):
Surfing Pikachu is hidden in Pokémon Stadium for the Nintendo 64. To teach your Pikachu Surf (a technique it can normally not learn), you need to first unlock the R-2 (Round 2) mode. Then do the following:
Enter the R-2 Prime Cups Master Ball division (you have to beat the first three divisions first). Assemble a team that contains a Pikachu that does not yet know Surf. You HAVE to use a Pikachu from your Game Boy game. You cannot unlock Surfing Pikachu using a Rental Pokémon.
Do not register your team! Pick it directly from your Game Boy cartridge. You now have to beat the Prime Cups Master Ball division using a three-Pokémon team that always contains Pikachu. Pikachu has to be in every one of the eight battles. You are not allowed to use any continues. If you do, you wont get Surfing Pikachu.
Once you have fulfilled all the above conditions, you are shown an award screen with Pikachu standing on a surfboard. From here on, Pikachu can use the Surf technique both in battle and during gameplay (Game Boy versions only). In Pokémon Yellow, you can now also access the hidden Surfing Pikachu mini-game. Simply go to the small hut on the northern beach of Route 19 and talk to the guy inside.
There is also a GameShark code that lets you access Surfing Pikachu, but we advise against using it, since it can mess up your Pokédex and save data. Its not worth the trouble.
Hint: Climb Trees
This isnt a useful trick in any way but it doesnt mess up your game and works on all versions. First you need a pokemon that knows how to use the cut technique, and then find a tree that you can chop down. Cut it down and stand right where it used to be. Save your game while youre standing there and then turn it off and on again. The tree will be there and it will look like youre standing on top of it as if you climbed it. (you can get down by walking.)
Hint: How to get two HMs in Fuchsia City
If you are stumped on where to get the “Surf” HM, Heres what you do. Its in Area 3 of the Safari Zone. You will have to get there fast as well. (I used a bike, I suggest you use it if you have it.) If you get into the secret hideaway in area 3, the man will give you the “Surf” HM. The gold teeth item is also in Area 3. Give the gold teeth to the owner of the Safari zone and he will give you the “Strength” HM. Use that to move the boulder and claim the item in the owners house.
Hint: Celadon City Slot Tip
All of the slot machines have different odds, which change every time. Play each machine 4 times, and if it hits 2 or more, then stick with that one, because its probably hot.
If the slow machine forces you really close to a 777 or Bar Bar Bar it will probably give you one or the other soon.
Hint: Easy Level Gain
To easily gain experience, simply switch the Pokémon you want to train with the top Pokémon on your list. When you go into battle the Pokémon will pop out. You can then switch to another Pokémon. Once you win the battle the beginning Pokémon and the fighting Pokémon will both gain experience points.
Hint: Get Squirtle
To get Squirtle first you must beat Lt. Surge. Then go talk to officer jenny in the middle of the city and she will give you Squirtle.
Hint: Get Amnesia Psyduck
Have you ever wondered how you can get the elusive Amnesia technique? Well, its hidden deep in Pokemon Stadium for the Nintendo 64. Unlocking it will take a while, but its definitely worth it. You have to register ALL 151 Pokemon in the Hall of Fame. Whenever you beat a tournament (or Gym Leader Castle), your six Pokemon are entered into the Hall of Fame. It doesnt matter whether you use rental Pokemon or your own, but you cant have any gaps. Once youve filled it all up, you are awarded a free Psyduck bonus Pokemon that knows the Amnesia technique. You can now upload it to your Game Boy pak and use it in your quest.
Hint: Get Raichu
To get Raichu, trade the Pikachu you started with to a Red/Blue version after It gets to be about Lv. 50-60. Then use a Thunderstone on the Pikachu you traded. After it evolves, trade it back to Pokemon Yellow. Now you will have Raichu. Be careful, though. Pikachu will no longer follow you around if you do this. You may be much better off just trading a Pikachu caught in Red/Blue and evolving that one.
Hint: Get Charmander
Go to Cerulean city and beat the five trainers on the bridge going north, then go in to the first square walk away and then talk to the guy in it, he will give you Charmander.
Hint: Get Bulbasaur
To get Bulbasaur beat misty nugget bridge and get to bill`s house. Defeat the rocket and get Dig. Go back to the house and she will give you Bulbasaur!
Hint: Boss Tactics
Here are your best bets for beating the Pokemon Gym Leaders:
Brock: Use water or grass Pokemon against this rock trainer. Misty: Use grass pokemon or electric to defeat this gym leader. Leiutenant Surge: use a rock or ground pokemon and hes toast. Erika: Use fire pokemon or flight against this plant lover and shatter her dreams of fighting you again. Sabrina: Use bug or ghost against this psychomaniac and she is a goner. Koga: This poison pokemon lover will be deafeted easily by using psy pokemon. Blaine: This fire trainer will use fire pokemon against you so you can use water or ice. Final boss: Giovanni, the team rocket leader, is the final gym leader - use water, ice, plant and hes out of there (and talk to him again and he says something to you).
In the Indigo Plateu you find 5 pokemon masters. Use this pokemon lineup for a better chance of success: Plant Water, Plant, Flight, Ice Psy Ice or Dragon Your choice
Good Luck!
Hint: Cut Down Grassy Areas
Once you get the HM “cut”, your pokemon can cut down grassy areas. Use “cut” and it will cut a two by two area. Wild Pokemon will not attack you in the area you cut.
Hint: Get Mewtwo
You can only get Mewtwo after you have beaten the game. First go to Cerulean City and go past the five trainers. Take a left and you are in a grassy area. Then continue down the water (you need Surf to get in the water) until you see land. Get on that land and enter the dungeon (if you havent finished the game, a guy will be blocking the entrance). Work yourself through the dungeon until youre on the bottom floor. You will see Mewtwo. Use your Master Ball to catch it.
Hint: Cheap Potions
When you reach Celadon City, go to the top (6th) floor of the Poke Mart and press A next to the machines and chose Lemonade. Lemonade replenishes 80 HP on a Pokemon, and it only costs 350, which is a lot less than a Hyper Potion.
Hint: Get the Mimic TM
Buy a Pokedoll in Celadon Mart, then FLY to Saffron and talk to the Copycat. She will give you the Mimic TM.
Hint: Secret Coins
At the Game Corner there are secret coins lying around. You can get these coins by walking around and pressing the A button.
Hint: Zapdos
You need the Surf HM. Go to the trail that goes to Rock Tunnel until you get to the grassy part with some water. Surf down the stream. You will be taken to a building. This is the Power Plant. Go inside. You can find Magnemite, Voltorb, and all them there. Keep going on the upwards ladders when you get there. When you get near the exit, you will find a bird. This is Zapdos.
Pokemon Red/Blue Cheats
Easy Exp points
Fight Elete 4 with for example Rattata level 6 or lower. By doing this it will give the pokemon a ton of exp points.
99 of Any Item
To get 99 of any item, first put the item you want to multiply in the sixth item slot. Now use FLY and go to Viridian City. Talk to the old man almost all the way north of the town. When he asks if you are in a hurry, say no and watch him catch a weedle.
Right after that, fly to Fuchsia city. Make your way south and, when you you reach the water’s edge, use SURF and make your way to Seafoam island.
When you get to seafoam island, swim up and down the beach until you run into a Pokemon called “M” (a glitch like Missingno.) Once you see him, kill him or run away. DO NOT CATCH HIM! After that, you should have 99 of your sixth item!

Pokemon Yellow: Pikachu Edition Cheats
Get Bulbasaur
After you get Squirtle, go to Cerulean city, and in one of the houses there is a lady, who has Pokemon next to her. Talk to her and she will ask you a question. Choose the top answer and she will ask you another question. Choose the top answer again and you get Bulbasaur!
Get Charmander
There are several ways to snag Charmander. On way is to travel to Ceruleon City, and talk with the man on the other side of Nugget Bridge. The other way is to beat SS. St. Anne to port and speak to Officer Jenny.
Get Squirtle
After getting off the S.S. Anne, and getting the Thunderbadge from the gymleader, Lt. Surge, then you can get Squirtle from Officer Jenny in the middle of town.
Pikachu Stuff
1. When pikachu’s really mad, he’ll have a skull (I think) over his head, and he’ll look like he’s doing thunderbolt. When he’s happy, he will jump up and down.*
2. Jump over a ledge, but don’t let pikachu come off it. He will become unpatient and he will do various things after a while.
3. While you do #2, sometimes if you walk forward while he’s doing that, sometimes he’ll slide after you.
* I meant the maximum mad and happy.
Safari Zone Pokemon
Go to Cinnabar island. Go to the pokemon center, then go to safari zone and use an escape rope to go back to Cinnabar island. Then surf on the right coast line and if you did it right you will get a safari zone pokemon.
Level 5 Gyarados
Fly to Fushia city, go to the place where you get the Good Rod, go in the back yard there will be a lake fish in it with the Super Rod. After a while you should come upon a level 5 Gyarados. Note: Recommend using lots of Ultra Balls, it is almost like catching a regular Gyarados.
Unlimited way to stop Sleeping
After get the Pok?flute. Use it in battle when a Pok?mon from your side is asleep. It will awake so you doesn’t need “Awakening” anymore. You can use it as much as you can!
Glitch City
This is a really neat code! So the code begins…
This is a code no one knows about. It is a really good code, and more people should know about it. The following is only informative about the Red/Blue Glitch City. The one in the yellow version is totally different. Glitch City is best done in this 8-Step process…
1.Go into the Safari Zone entrance building, and when the guy says, “It’s 500$ dollars to enter, would you like to come in”, say YES.
2. Then go into the first rest house you encounter. Talk to the guy with the glasses once. Then leave early by going out the main entrance of the Safari Zone.
3.When the guy says, “Leaving early?” say NO. You will be sent back out. Don’t make a move.
4. After doing this, leave early again, and when the guy says, “Leaving early?”, say NO again.
5. Once you are back in the Safari Zone, save the game, turn it off, then turn it back on. After this, leave early again.
6. Once you leave early again, this is when the first glitch appears. Instead of the guy saying, “Leaving early”, he says, “It’s 500$ to enter. Would you like to come in?” When he says this, say NO.
7.From here, you will be sent back into Fuchsia. Pretty normal ‘eh? Well the codes’ not over! Once in Fuchsia, fly to Cinnabar Island. Then surf up and down the east coast (you will not find Missingno, instead you will run into Safari Pok?mon. See the Safari cheat below for more information.) Now this may take about ten minutes, but it works. The amount of time you have to catch Pok?mon in the Safari Zone is 500 steps, and it will be on Cinnabar Island! Remember, it takes 500 steps until time’s up, so if you’d like to keep track, just count 500 steps (remember, keep on going up and down Cinnabar, and if you’d like, you can put the timer on for 10 minutes). And when you run into Safari Pokemon, just run away. It doesn’t change anything. Use repel if you want to. (Trust me, it does work!)
As you can see, the “Ding-Dong” that normally goes off in the Safari Zone happens off Cinnabar.
8. After 500 steps, you will hear a “Ding-Dong” just like you hear in the Safari Zone when you run out of time only it’s on Cinnabar Island. You will automatically be transported to the Safari Zone entrance building, and then leave the building. You will be in Glitch City!
After leaving the Safari Building, you’ll be in Glitch City.
When you are in Glitch City, don’t go too far to the left of the right. You will get stuck in invisible walls. You also have a chance to swim on land and walk on water! This is by far the most interesting code. In the red/blue version, if you go left to the hedge in Glitch City and jump over it, you will come to “checkered water”. Go to the top left square, go left one space and then right one. You will be stuck, but you can surf. This is how to surf on land. If you head straight east or north, eventually you will get to the game’s limits and it will shut off. Just turn the game on again and you will be returned to the last place you saved. The only way to get out of glitch city is to fly out, so if you save, make absolutely sure you have a Pokemon that knows how to fly, or you will be stuck in glitch city forever.
In the red and blue version Glitch City, this is the “checkered-water” you will come to.
(CHALLENGE: After you leave the safari entrance building (when you are about to fly to Cinnabar Island), you can fly to another place. Flying to Lavender Town, route 17 (the bike route), or several other places during the trick will trigger a totally different glitch city. If you go to the Bike Route on step 7, there’ll be a Glitch City but one in which you walk down automatically, like the bikes! However, the Glitch City resulting from Cinnabar’s coast allows you to walk around more than in any other discovered glitch city.)
